HC Deb 08 November 1988 vol 140 c123W
30. Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on his future plans for the salaries of heads, deputy heads and other teachers.

Mrs. Rumbold

My right hon. Friend gave the interim advisory committee on school teachers' pay and conditions its remit for 1989–90 in September. The remit specifically asked the committee to give advice on what modifications should be made to the pay of heads and deputies, taking into account in particular the introduction of local management schemes for schools. The remit also asked the committee to give advice on what the general pay increase to all teachers should be and what modifications should be made to the system of selective payments. The committee is due to report to my right hon. Friend by mid-February at the latest.
