To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what approaches, and with respect to which rural lines in Lancashire and Yorkshire, British Rail has approached him with regard to their potential closure; and if he will make a statement.

British Rail has not made any proposals to close rural lines in Lancashire and Yorkshire other than the Settle-Carlisle line.
