HC Deb 08 November 1988 vol 140 cc150-1W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the current number of vehicles in the secure car service pool; how many are of(a) British manufacture and (b) foreign manufacture; how many of the vehicles are able to use unleaded petrol; and what was the total cost of the secure car service in the financial year 1987–88.

Mr. Chope

[holding answer 3 November 1988]: It is not the practice to give information about matters of security in the Government car service. As regards the Government car service generally, there are 174 vehicles, all of which are British badged. Twenty-five of the 79 allocated to Ministers can run on unleaded fuel. Vehicles capable of running on unleaded fuel are purchased as replacements become due for existing vehicles.

The total cost of operating the secure car service to Ministers and heads of Departments during 1987–88 was provided in a written reply on 15 April 1988 at column 232.

Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list by Department the number of parking tickets received and the total amount paid in respect of Government car service vehicles in 1987 and 1988 to date.

Mr. Chope

[holding answer 3 November 1988]: The number of parking fines incurred by Government car service vehicles in 1987 and the total sum of fines paid were provided in a written reply on 15 April 1988, at column 233.
