HC Deb 08 November 1988 vol 140 c139W
Mr. Ashley

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many applications he has received in each year since 1984, for grants to promote the interests of disabled people under the terms of section 93 of the Telecommunications Act 1984; by whom the applications were submitted; in each case, what was the size of the grant requested and the purpose for which it was required; and which of the applications were successful.

Mr. Atkins

One application has been received. This was made in 1986 under the "private branch exchange for visually handicapped operators scheme", a scheme set up under the terms of section 93 of the Act. The applicant was Norton Telecommunications Ltd. The grant requested was for £25,000 to support the adaptation of the console of Norton's MCX exchange for use by visually handicapped operators. The application was successful.
