To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether local hospitals and ambulance services are involved in contingency plans in case of accident at the atomic weapons research establishment, Aldermaston.

I have been asked to reply.

The atomic weapons establishment at Aldermaston maintains close liaison with local authorities, the police, fire and other emergency services. This includes arrangements for the use of local and service hospitals.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how long after the alarm system at the atomic weapons research establishment, Aldermaston, had indicated an emergency situation on 28 October the local hospitals and ambulance services were informed; and if he will make a statement.
