HC Deb 07 November 1988 vol 140 cc70-1W
Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if his Department has prepared a schedule for the implementation of the recommendations affecting the national roads programme made in the Government's policy document, "Road Safety: The Next Steps."

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The value attached to human life in the economic assessment of schemes has been increased. The emphasis given to safety audits and assessments is being enhanced.

Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what percentage increase in resources spent on low-cost schemes arising from accident investigation and prevention work will be necessary to implement more work of this kind on trunk roads, as recommended by the Government's policy document, "Road Safety: The Next Steps."

Mr. Peter Bottomley

"Road Safety: The Next Steps" did not make a specific recommendation on the number of low cost AIP schemes.
