To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if consideration has been given to a proposal that there should be a management purchase of British Coal; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Spicer

We intend to privatise the coal industry after the next general election. We are currently considering the options; no decisions have yet been made.

31. Mr. Moss

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy when he last met with the chairman of British Coal; and what matters were discussed.

Mr. Parkinson

I meet the chairman of British Coal regularly to discuss all aspects of the coal industry.

41. Mr. Marlow

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what options he is considering for privatisation of the coal industry.

Mr. Parkinson

No decisions have yet been made. The Government will look at a wide range of options.
