HC Deb 07 November 1988 vol 140 c58W
Mr. Fry

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment he has made of the danger to health of inhaling from aerosols, and what action he proposes to take to deter young people from indulging in this potentially fatal practice.

Mrs. Currie

The Government have commissioned a study at St. George's hospital medical school to investigate the effects of solvent abuse on secondary school children with particular attention to neuro-psychological consequences. A report will be available shortly.

In addition to the range of measures which have been taken directly in line with the Government's policy of education and persuasion we are currently funding drug education co-ordinators in every local education authority, whose work includes activities aimed at preventing solvent misuse.
