HC Deb 04 November 1988 vol 139 c787W
Sir Barney Hayhoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what investigations have been made by the Health and Safety Executive into the explosion on 13 October at Williams dye factory, Hanworth road, Hounslow; and what action is being taken to protect from further hazard residents and others working nearby.

Mr. Nicholls

Inspectors and a scientist from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have visited Williams of Hounslow to investigate the cause of the incident which occurred on 13 October 1988. They have taken enforcement action to stop production in the building in which the incident occurred until the plant has been modified and will be looking at the safety of other processes carried out on the site. The HSE does not consider that the process giving rise to the incident presented a risk to the health or safety of persons living and working in the neighbourhood of the site.
