Mr. Beggs

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what investigations into the collapse of International Investments Limited, Gibraltar, have been carried out by his Department; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maude

None. International Investments Ltd., Gibraltar is not registered in the United Kingdom, nor does it have a place of businesss here. The Royal Ulster Constabulary are conducting a thorough investigation and the Bank of England and the Financial Intermediaries, Managers and Brokers Regulatory Association are aware of the case.

Mr. Beggs

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what information he has as to how many Northern Ireland investors have suffered as a result of the collapse of(a) International Investments Limited, Gibraltar, and (b) Barlow Clowes.

Mr. Maude

I understand that some 850 of the depositors with International Investments Ltd., Gibraltar are resident in Northern Ireland. Comprehensive information about Northern Ireland investors in Barlow Clowes is not available, but my Department has received four letters from investors in Northern Ireland.
