HC Deb 04 November 1988 vol 139 c795W
Mr. Warren

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he last sent reminders to diplomatic missions in the United Kingdom that Her Majesty's Government expect them to conform to parking regulations, and to request their heads of mission to issue instructions to their staff to pay any penalties or fines incurred; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

On arrival in London all diplomats are sent a memorandum by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office explaining that they are required to comply with local parking regulations and to pay any fines, and describing the problems caused by illegal parking. In addition, these points are set out in a longer memorandum on diplomatic privileges and immunities which is issued to all diplomatic missions and which was most recently revised and reisssued in March 1987.

We are confident that all diplomatic missions in London are fully aware of their obligations in this respect.
