25. Mr. Robert G. HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made in developing his Department's safer cities project in Bradford; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. John PattenBradford was the second area to be announced as a safer cities project. Since the announcement on 2 June 1988, discussions have been taking place to establish a steering committee which will include representatives of the council, police, probation and voluntary sector. A project co-ordinator, assistance co-ordinator and personal assistant have been recruited and will shortly be in post.
A crime profile based on an analysis of local crime problems is being prepared. This will be supplemented by surveys of local people and the information gained will be used to develop an action plan to tackle crime in Bradford.
