HL Deb 03 November 1988 vol 501 c468WA
Lord Tordoff

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking to protest at the banning by the Government of Paraguay of the Partido Liberal Radical Autentico.

Lord Glenarthur

We are not aware that the Partido Liberal Radical Autentico (PLRA) has been "banned" by the Paraguayan government, though its leaders have been subject to arbitrary detentions. I understand that the PLRA has not sought recognition from the authorities under the provisions of the electoral registration law. The Paraguayan government are well aware of our views on the need to ensure civil and human rights, including the need for greater freedom of assembly.
