Mr. Menzies Campbell

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what proposals he has to modernise the barracks of Norton Manor camp, Taunton.

Mr. Freeman

A redevelopment study of Norton Manor camp is currently in progress and is expected to be completed in mid-1989. This study will produce a development plan for the establishment which will include proposals to modernise its facilities where necessary.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the capital expenditure at Norton Manor camp, Taunton, and the purposes for which it was spent in the last five years for which information is available.

Capital expenditure on works services at Norton Manor camp approved over the last five years has been as follows:

The main purposes for this expenditure has been to maintain and improve the living/recreational accommodation and working areas within the camp, which is of world war II vintage, to meet the needs of an operational Commando unit.
