HC Deb 03 November 1988 vol 139 c760W
51. Mr. Madden

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he is taking to reduce delays in the immigration service interviewing sponsors in the United Kingdom at the request of British overseas posts.

Mr. Renton

Arrangements have been made to divert immigration service resources to the interviewing of sponsors in entry clearance cases now that the seasonal peaks of arriving passenger traffic have passed and staff are available for other tasks.

Additional staff have been provided at Manchester, Luton and East Midlands airports and at Harmondsworth to supplement the units already operating at Felixstowe and Sheerness.

Extra staff will also be provided at Birmingham airport after Christmas when building work is completed.
