To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what duties have been undertaken by HMS Nurton in the past 12 months and where.

In the past 12 months HMS Nurton has spent 29 weeks on exercises, training and operational tasks, 12 weeks undergoing maintenance, and 11 weeks either on visits or at her base port. Apart from two short visits to Scandinavia, HMS Nurton spent the period in home waters.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what has been the operational cost of HMS Nurton in each year for which records are available.

With the exception of financial year 1983–84, when the ship was in refit, operating costs for HMS Nurton have averaged £2 million per annum over financial years 1982–83 to 1987–88.
