HC Deb 03 November 1988 vol 139 c726W
Mr. Heddle

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when he proposes to announce the alteration in circular S1765/1987 of the General Development Order which accompanied the Use Class Order 1987 regarding the size limitation of space which may be switched from the general industrial and warehouse use class to business use without specific planning permission.

Mr. Chope

The Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1988 was laid before the House on 31 October and will come into effect on 5 December. It consolidates the 1977 GDO and subsequent amending orders, including SI 765 of 1987. It removes the floorspace limitation on change of use of a building from general industrial to business use. A floorspace limitation is retained for changes from business or general industrial use to use for storage and distribution, and from use for storage and distribution to business use.
