HC Deb 03 November 1988 vol 139 c727W
Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) when his Department last checked each of the water authorities to examine the levels of aluminium in water recorded by each authority;

(2) if he will make a statement on the process used by his Department to monitor levels of aluminium in water for each water authority.

Mr. Moynihan

The Department does not directly carry out monitoring or checking procedures on the levels of aluminium in drinking water supplied by water authorities. It is the responsibility of water authorities to monitor the aluminium levels in the drinking water they supply. This monitoring is carried out regularly in accordance with the requirements of the EC drinking water directive.
