HL Deb 03 November 1988 vol 501 c465WA
Lord Mottistone

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What military considerations were taken into account before they decided on the Isle of Wight (A3055 Military Road Compton Down) Compulsory Purchase Order 1986.

The Earl of Caithness

None: no evidence was presented at the public local inquiry relating to military issues. Therefore there were no military considerations for my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Environment to take into account in arriving at this decision not to grant planning permission to the county council for the proposed realignment of the A305 Military Road. My right honourable friend's decision on the planning application meant that there was no authority for my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Transport to confirm the Isle of Wight (A3055 Military Road Compton Down) Compulsory Purchase Order 1986 which had been submitted to him.
