HC Deb 02 November 1988 vol 139 c679W
31. Mr. French

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received about the effects on the community of a privatised water industry.

Mr. Moynihan

My right hon. Friend has received representations covering a wide range of opinions since the privatisation proposals were published. There was a general welcome for the proposals to establish a National Rivers Authority, which will protect environmental standards, and a Director-General of Water Services to oversee the interests of consumers.

33. Mr. McCartney

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when he proposes to publish the Bill to sell off the water authorities.

48. Mr. Barron

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when he now intends to introduce legislation to sell the water authorities in England and Wales.

Mr. Moynihan

Subject to the Gracious Speech, early in the coming Session.
