HL Deb 02 November 1988 vol 501 cc385-6WA
The Countess of Mar

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What proportion of hospital beds for the mentally ill are occupied by patients over the age of 65.

Central estimates indicate that at the end of 1986, the latest year for which figures are available, some 48 per cent. of the staffed beds available in the National Health Service mental illness hospitals and units in England were occupied by patients at or over the age of 65 years.
