HC Deb 02 November 1988 vol 139 cc637-8W
Mr. McCrindle

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions he has had with the chairman of London Underground concerning the easing of congestion on the Underground, and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Portillo

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State and I have regular discussions with the chairman of London Underground about the relief of congestion on the Underground and in particular on the progress of the central London rail study which is addressing this problem.

Meanwhile we have approved the renewal of the Central line at a cost of over £700 million as well as other measures to relieve congestion, costing over £100 million.
