HC Deb 02 November 1988 vol 139 cc640-1W
Ms. Harman

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what procedures were followed in assessing the application for a grant for the St. Thomas's hospital cyclotron.

Mrs. Currie

The application was the subject of meetings and correspondence with representatives of the cyclotron trust, and was considered in the light of our overall objectives and priorities for the National Health Service.

Ms. Harman

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list the organisations and individuals, other than his officials, from whom he received expert advice in respect of the St. Thomas's hospital cyclotron.

Mrs. Currie

No external expert advice was received before the decision was taken to contribute to the funds of the cyclotron trust. My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister has since received correspondence from the chairman of the United Kingdom co-ordinating committee on cancer research, and my right hon. Friend the then Secretary of State for Social Services received comments from the chairman of that committee's collaborative group for head and neck cancer.
