Ms. Richardson

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what action he is taking to provide for statutory redundancy payments to be payable to both women and men up to the age of 65 years, or to normal retiring age for the job where that is below 65 years, and on a non-discriminatory basis; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholls

On 29 October 1987 my hon. Friend the Minister of State announced his intention to increase the age limit up to which women can receive a statutory redundancy payment from 60 to 65 years as soon as legislative time was available.
