HC Deb 27 May 1988 vol 134 c355W
Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will provide estimates to show the change in numbers of barn owls in England and Wales over the last 20 years.

Mr. Moynihan

The only available figures for England and Wales are a survey in 1932 which showed a breeding population of just over 12,000 pairs and the Hawk Trust's barn owl survey, taken over the period 1982–85, which showed some 3,750 pairs.
