§ Mr. Harry BarnesTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has any plans to amend the regulation under which 19-year-old school leavers can qualify for supplementary benefit payments when they are estranged from their parents.
§ Mr. PortilloSupplementary benefit was replaced by income support from 11 April 1988. All 19-year-old school-leavers can qualify for income support provided they meet the normal conditions of entitlement such as availability for work and the income and capital limits. There are no plans to change this regulation.
