Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the numbers of persons in Wales who were ordered to be held in psychiatric hospitals under provisions of Mental Health Acts during 1987 or most recent available and the number of such persons detained under orders in Wales at the current time.

The latest available figures indicate that during 1986 there were 830 admissions to mental illness and mental handicap hospitals and units in Wales under the various provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983. Details are as follows:
