HC Deb 26 May 1988 vol 134 c280W
Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the rights and entitlements which accrue to a firearms club which is approved by his Department under the terms of the Firearms Act 1968 as against a firearms club which is not approved for the use of small bore and full bore rifles and pistols and revolvers.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

My reply of 9 May may have been subject to misinterpretation and has been amended as follows.

Approved clubs are eligible to be issued with a club firearm certificate at no cost. The certificate authorises the purchase and possession of firearms and ammunition for club use. Approval also enables members who do not have their own firearm certificate to possess firearms and ammunition when engaged, as members of the club, in drill or target practice. Members of those clubs which are not approved must hold a personal firearm certificate which specifies the firearms and ammunition they are entitled to possess.
