To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how much was spent by the Welsh water authority on(a) water quality regulation, (b) water resources, (c) water supply, (d) land drainage and flood protection, (e) recreation, amenities, fisheries and navigation, and (f) sewage collection treatment and disposal in 1987–88.

The information requested will not be available until the Welsh water authority publishes its annual accounts for 1987–88.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many staff were employed by the Welsh water authority at the latest available date.

Mr. Grist

At 31 March 1988, the Welsh water authority employed 4,618 people (full-time equivalents).
