To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many persons left school at the end of the last summer term; and, of these, how many are(a) in full-time permanent employment, (b) in full-time education, (c) in youth training or temporary employment schemes and (d) unemployed; and what are the corresponding figures for each year since 1979.

Information on the number of persons who left school at the end of the last summer term is not yet available. Detailed information on the first destination of school leavers is not available in the form required. Information on those who left school, by term, for each year since 1979 and their intended destination is available in the table:

2 Includes leavers who have been accepted under the Youth Training Scheme or temporary employment schemes, and those known to be looking for employment as well as those in full-time employment.

3 Department of Employment. Shows the number of school leavers under 18 at March each year who had yet to find their first job after leaving school the previous summer.
