To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the promotion of energy efficiency in Scotland.

The Government have achieved considerable success in encouraging the efficient use of energy in all sectors in Scotland. There are now over 1,000 energy managers in Scotland. Grants of about £0.7 million have been given for energy surveys which have identified potential estimated savings of almost £20 million per year. In addition, through the energy efficiency demonstration scheme, £2.1 million has been provided to test new energy-saving technologies. In the domestic sector, 412,000 grants totalling just under £9.25 million have been provided through the homes insulation scheme. On 11 May I opened a successful conference in Glasgow on energy efficiency in commercial properties in Glasgow.
