To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations the Lord Advocate has received about the introduction of class actions into Scottish legal procedure; and if he will make a statement.

Representations have been received recently from the Consumers' Association. My noble and learned Friend, the Lord Advocate, and my right hon. and learned Friend, the Secretary of State for Scotland, are considering steps to improve the availability in Scotland of an effective judicial remedy for a number of individuals with similar complaints against a common defender.
