HC Deb 25 May 1988 vol 134 c189W
Mr. Galbraith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whom outside Her Majesty's Government he is consulting about the appointment of the new chief medical officer; and when he expects to make an appointment.

Mr. Rifkind

The appointment of a chief medical officer, Scottish Home and Health Department, is being made under Civil Service Commission arrangements. A public advertisement has invited suitably qualified persons to apply for the post. The selection board interviews will be held in June with a view to appointing a successful candidate who will be expected to take up post on the retirement of the present chief medical officer.
