HC Deb 25 May 1988 vol 134 cc216-7W
Mr. Allason

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether any changes will be made to cash limits for his Department in 1988–89.

Mr. Newton

Subject to parliamentary approval of the necessary Supplementary Estimates, the following changes will be made:

The cash limit for class XIV, vote 1, (Hospital and community health and other services, England) will be increased by £538,303,000 (from £10,653,687,000 to £11,191,990,000). This increase follows the decision to implement, from 1 April 1988, the recommendations of the review bodies in respect of doctors, dentists, nurses, midwives and professions allied to medicine, as announced by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 21 April 1988.

The cash limit for class XIV, vote 3 (Miscellaneous health services and personal social services, England) will be increased by £400,000 (from £417,746,000 to £418,146,000), reflecting the transfer, from the non-cash limited class XIV, vote 2, of provision to meet the cost of location incentives to dentists.

The public expenditure costs of these changes have been charged to the Reserve and do not add to the public expenditure planning total.
