HC Deb 25 May 1988 vol 134 cc221-2W
Mr. McNamara

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the maximum distance between bomb and person detonating it over which a remote-controlled bomb has been known to have detonated in Northern Ireland in the following circumstances: (a) in open countryside, (b) in an urban area and (c) where there was a high concrete obstruction between the bomb and the person detonating it.

Mr. Ian Stewart

[holding answer 23 May 1988]: I have been asked to reply.

The circumstances in which a bomb can be remotely detonated by means of a command wire or by radio control are extremely variable. It is not possible to provide the information requested.
