Mr. Butcher

During 1987, my Department's radio investigation service (RIS) carried out 19 raids on three unlicensed stations in Birmingham. So far this year, the RIS has raided four Birmingham stations eight times, and interviewed eight people for possible prosecution under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949. The RIS will continue to act to remove unlicensed transmitters causing interference to authorised radio services, and we shall be seeking to strengthen the terms of the law concerning the unlicensed use of radio as soon as possible.
