§ Mr. StrawTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what sums in total his Department has allocated for spending on capital, current and other costs of city technology colleges for the current financial year and for 1989–90, 1990–91 and 1991–92.
§ Mr. Kenneth BakerOverall planned expenditure on the city technology colleges programme is £19 million for the current financial year, £33 million for 1989–90 and £34 million for 1990–91. Future plans will be the subject of review during the year since 1991–92 falls outside the current public expenditure planning period. It is not possible at this stage to provide a breakdown showing capital and recurrent costs separately as this depends on a number of factors including the nature and condition of premises acquired, and the speed at which sponsors' plans are implemented.
