To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the number of households entitled to (i) supplementary benefit and (ii) housing benefit which failed to claim benefit in 1987–88 and how many were pensioner households.

The latest take-up estimates for supplementary benefit are for 1983 and those for housing benefit are for 1984. A convenient summary is shown on pages 272 and 273 of the 1988 public expenditure White Paper (Cm. 288). More detailed technical reports are available in the Library.

(f) The day-patient attendance rate for the over 65s

Information, including the age of patients admitted to a hospital bed for treatment as a day case and regular day admissions will be available centrally for the first time later this year. For patients using NHS day care facilities, the specialty function classification will provide some indication of the age groups using the facility.

(g) Meals on wheels provision

Information on meals-on-wheels provision is not available in the precise form requested as data are by local authority area, which is not always conterminous with health authority area. The latest information for the relevant local authorities is given in the table.
