HC Deb 23 May 1988 vol 134 cc76-7W
Mr. Trotter

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what contribution his Department has made towards the funding of the Walker park project in Newcastle; and whether Newcastle city council has advised him of who has been invited to open it.

Mr. Trippier

I understand that Newcastle city council has invited the right hon. Member, the Leader of the Opposition, to be the principal guest at the ceremony to commemorate the centenary of Walker park and the completion of the project to improve its facilities. I am glad to see him supporting a project which has received approval for urban programme grant of £942,000, to which my Department has contributed £634,500 for capital expenditure and £72,000 for revenue expenditure as against £211,500 capital and £24,000 revenue from the local authority.
