HC Deb 23 May 1988 vol 134 cc35-6W
Mr. Livingstone

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what information is available as to the current investigation by the Royal Ulster Constabulary into alleged sexual assaults on a 13-year-old boy at the Gleneyre and Burnside children's home; what information relating to such alleged assaults was made available to Sir George Terry during his investigation into Kincora and other children's homes in 1982; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stanley

[holding answer 26 April 1988]: The RUC fully investigated allegations of misconduct concerning children in care in Gleneyre and Burnside children's homes, Craigavon. The papers were referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (Northern Ireland) who directed no prosecution. However, in recent months, following further information received, this inquiry has been reopened and is currently under investigation by the RUC. I cannot comment on the information available to the police in the context of their current investigation.

As far as the information available to Sir George Terry is concerned, I cannot add to what is said in his report (a copy of which is in the Library).
