34. Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

To ask the right hon. Member for Selby, as representing the Church Commissioners what restrictions the Church Commissioners place on the use of Church buildings for which they have responsibility.

Mr. Key

To ask the right hon. Member for Selby, as representing the Church Commissioners what representations the commissioners have received about the restrictions placed by them on the use of Church buildings for which they have responsibility.

Mr. Alison

The commissioners do not normally carry responsibility for church buildings when they are in use for worship. The restrictions which they place upon the use of property for which they do have responsibility depend upon its nature. For example, when a redundant church is put to another use, restrictive and other covenants are included to safeguard the use and fabric.
