HC Deb 23 May 1988 vol 134 c43W
16. Mr. Shersby

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what corrective measures have been taken in the light of the 15th report from the Public Accounts Committee, House of Commons Paper No. 38, to ensure that responsibility for securing economy, efficiency and effectiveness in the use of public funds has been discharged in relation to the national museum of Wales.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Measures to ensure the proper discharge of the Department's sponsorship responsibility for the national museum of Wales are being taken as described in the Treasury Minute published on 28 October 1987 (in response to the Fifteenth Report from the Public Accounts Committee). The financial management and policy review has been completed and the consultants' recommendations are in the process of being implemented. Action is also being taken in response to the internal audit report. A revised financial memorandum is now in operation. Corporate planning is being developed. There is close liaison between the Department and the museum on all these matters, and improved monitoring arrangements have been implemented by the Department.
