Family Practitioner Committees

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services on what basis the level of funding for each family practitioner committee is decided.

Our aim for the past three years has been to reduce the effects of such anomalies as arose from the negotiations in 1984–85 between district health authorities and family practitioner committees (FPCs) to determine the appropriate funds to be transferred to the newly-independent committees. The formula used to achieve this aim has been accepted by FPC interests as the best which could be devised for the purpose and, by agreement, is now regarded as having served this purpose after use in the current financial year.
