HC Deb 23 May 1988 vol 134 c17W
Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the recommendations contained in the Wildy report on the future of animal disease research as they affect Scotland.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The Wildy report to the Agriculture Ministers and the chairman of the Agricultural and Food Research Council reviewed current arrangements for R and D in farm animal diseases and made recommendations on the use of resources in the future. In Scotland it covered work at the Moredun research institute, the Rowett research institute, the veterinary investigation service of Scottish agricultural colleges and the Edinburgh and Glasgow veterinary schools.

The report makes no specific recommendations about the programmes of research in Scotland but the recommendation on the establishment of an overall United Kingdom executive body will need further consideration.
