HC Deb 20 May 1988 vol 133 c592W
Mr. Higgins

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied that there is adequate consultation between the regional health authorities in planning the hospital building programmes; and if he will make it his policy that no proposal for new hospital building close to Worthing health authority district will be considered without taking fully into account the location of existing hospitals and the case for giving priority to the construction of phase II of the Worthing hospital.

Mrs. Currie

It is incumbent on all health authorities when planning capital schemes to take into account developments planned or in the pipeline in neighbouring authorities. In the case of Worthing and Brighton the authorities concerned are considering jointly the location of and services provided by existing hospitals in those districts and future plans for new building before submitting proposals to the Department.
