The national mobility scheme is voluntary, but nearly all local authorities participate and I welcome the wholehearted support of the local authority associations; their representatives, together with those of other participating bodies, form the steering committee which oversees and monitors the scheme. With over 47,000 moves achieved since 1981–82, the scheme makes a valued contribution to housing mobility.
