HC Deb 19 May 1988 vol 133 c523W
Mr. Adley

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what has been the increase in rail traffic between the date of the first drafting of the Channel Tunnel Bill and the latest date for which figures are available on that section of the line to be utilised by Channel tunnel trains(a) between Sevenoaks and Orpington and (b) between Tonbridge and Orpington.

Mr. David Mitchell

I am told by British Rail that information is not available in the form requested. However, the number of morning peak passengers arriving at London terminal stations on BR's south eastern main line outer services, which include services on the sections of route specified by my hon. Friend, increased by 8.3 per cent. between 1986 and 1987. BR estimates that it will rise by a further 3 to 3.5 per cent. between 1987 and 1988.
