HC Deb 18 May 1988 vol 133 cc474-5W
16. Mr. Kirkhope

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how much public money in total has been given to the seven urban development corporations created in December 1987.

20. Mr. Bowis

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how much public funding has been given to the seven urban development corporations set up in December 1987; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Trippier

In December 1987 my right hon. Friend announced proposals for three new urban development corporations and the extension of the Black Country development corporation to cover parts of Wolverhampton. The necessary designation order, and an order to designate the Sheffield DC announced in March, have now been laid. Resource allocation will be decided after Parliament has approved the orders.

22. Mr. Patnick

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has decided who will be chairmen of the seven urban development corporations he set up in December 1987.

Mr. Trippier

I refer my hon. Friend to my earlier answer to my hon. Friend the Member for Leeds, North-East (Mr. Kirkhope): chairmen-designate have been announced for all four urban development corporations awaiting parliamentary approval.
