§ Mr. Peter BottomleyRoad and vehicle safety directorate, which includes the vehicle inspectorate and driver training and testing organisation, employs 3,755 staff. Other parts of the Department directly contributing to road safety include the highways command, the transport and road research laboratory, the traffic area offices and, as regards vehicle records and documentation, the driver vehicle and licensing centre at Swansea.
