HC Deb 18 May 1988 vol 133 c458W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is the current total level of radioactive wastes returnable to each country under British Nuclear Fuels plc contracts.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The volumes of waste which are likely to arise from BNFL's existing overseas reprocessing contracts with return of waste options are:

  • high-level waste, 200 cu m;
  • intermediate-level waste, 3,500 cu m;
  • low-level waste, 23,000 cu m.

The waste mentioned will arise from contracts with electricity utilities in the Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The volume arising from each country is commercially confidential.
